A DIY Gun Case

If you have a gun in your home, a good case will protect it from damage. A nice foam cushion keeps it from rattling around, and protects the finish of both the stock and the barrel. Also, a case with a lock can keep children from getting their hands on the gun.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a durable hard plastic case. It should have a place for a lock or a way to lock it. A box with a handle works well, because a lock can go around the handle and keep it closed. The box needs to be thick enough so that the gun fits inside when it is closed and there is an inch of space for padding.

    • 2

Open the box and place a piece of 1/2 inch thick foam padding over one of the open sides. Trace along the padding, following the outline of the box.

    • 3

Trim the padding, following the outline. Slip the foam into the case to ensure that it fits properly. Trim any areas that need it.

    • 4

Place the cut foam over another 1/2 inch piece of foam and draw another outline on the second piece of foam. Cut the new piece of foam.

    • 5

Place the third piece of foam down and put the gun on top of it. trace the outline of the gun on the foam.

    • 6

Cut the outline of the gun out of the middle of the third piece of foam.

    • 7

Spread glue on the inside of the box on both sides. Place the foam pieces into both sides and press down to get the glue to set.

    • 8

Decide which side of the box is going to be the bottom. In most cases it is evident by the way the latches of the box are turned. Mark the top of the box with a pen to label it.

    • 9

Spread glue on top of the piece of foam in the bottom of the box. Place the third foam piece, that has the shape of the gun cut out of the middle, on top of the glue and press down. Let all the glue dry. You now have a case for your gun that will protect it from damage.
