How to Remove Adhesive From a Remington Model 1100

Having adhesive on the surface of your Remington model 1100 shotgun (or any other firearm), be it on the gun metal or the stock, not only looks unsightly but can potentially damage the surface. Removing adhesive should only be done with a soft material since the surface of your firearm is exceptionally susceptible to scratching. The primary agent for adhesive removal is simple household ammonia, commonly available in any grocery or hardware store. Before cleaning off the adhesive, make sure that your shotgun is unloaded.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a blow-dryer to apply hot air directly to any tape that you're trying to remove. (If there is no tape and only residual adhesive, go directly to Step 2). As the tape heats the adhesive loses its strength, allowing you to peel off any material that is sticking to the firearm surface. Remove as much as possible.

    • 2

Apply household ammonia to a soft cloth and gently rub the surface with the adhesive on it. Continue until you have wiped off all of the adhesive; this may take several attempts, but it is very effective.

    • 3

Wipe off the area with gun solvent to remove any residual ammonia (if on a metal surface). After you have cleaned the surface with solvent, apply a coating of gun oil. If the surface is the wooden stock, clean with furniture polish.
