How to Field Strip a Llama Max-1

Llama Firearms released the Max-1 in 1995. The pistol was designed to replicate the famous Colt 1911 Government model. The Max-1 is a self-loading pistol chambered to shoot .45 ACP rounds, with a seven-round magazine capacity. Llama firearms discontinued the manufacturing of the Max-1 in 2005, but many are bought and sold in the resale market.

Instructions

    • 1

Point the Max-1 in a safe direction; release the magazine by pressing down on the magazine catch with your left thumb. The magazine-catch button is located behind the trigger. Pull back the action slide until the chamber is visible through the ejector port on the slide's right side. Check the chamber for loaded rounds.

    • 2

Push in the plug -- located directly under the tip of the barrel -- while simultaneously turning the barrel bushing toward the right side of the gun. The barrel bushing is located above the plug. Hold the plug firmly; it will spring back when the barrel bushing is released.

    • 3

Hold the gun with your right hand, and pull the action slide back with your left. Push the slide stop upward with your right thumb until the notch aligns with the slide-stop nose. The slide stop is located on the left side of the pistol's frame, in between the trigger and the action slide. Press the slide stop pin inward. Keep the slide-stop pin pushed in until field-stripping is complete.

    • 4

Push the action slide slightly forward to release the recoil spring and barrel assembly.

    • 5

Remove the two screws located on the left side of the grip with a slotted screwdriver. This provides easy access to the trigger assembly and magazine port.
