How to Mount a Scope on a Remington R-15

The R-15 is a semi-automatic rifle, produced by Remington, and is based on the AR-15 rifle. Remington took the basic design and functions of the popular AR-15 rifle and engineered a rifle specifically for hunting. The rifle features a free-floating barrel (which means the hand guard does not contact the barrel, a factor which increases the rifle accuracy) and is available in two calibers: 223 Remington or 204 Ruger. The rifle comes standard with a five-round magazine but is compatible with higher capacity AR 15 magazines. The R-15 is considered a "flattop" because of the weaver-style scope mount built into the upper receiver on top of the action.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the magazine from your R-15 and clear the action to make sure that the weapon is unloaded.

    • 2

Loosen the mounting screws at the bases of your weaver-style scope rings, so that you can spread apart the mounting brackets.

    • 3

Lay the mounting screws across the rifle's scope mount so that they are within the slots that are cut across the mount. Position the sides of the mounting brackets over the edges of the mount and securely tighten the mounting screws.

    • 4

Remove the tops of the scope rings by unscrewing the retention screws on both sides of the rings. Place your scope on the rings and reattach the tops, but do not completely tighten.

    • 5

Adjust your scope so that the crosshairs appear directly vertical and horizontal when viewed through the lens and move your scope so that you have proper eye relief (a clear sight picture). When your scope is positioned to your satisfaction, finish tightening the rings.
