The Scope Rings Will Not Slip on My Marlin 60

The Marlin model 60 is a popular .22-caliber rifle generally used for target practice or small game hunting. The model 60 is semi-automatic and features a tube magazine with a 14-round capacity. The rifle was designed for easy scope mounting and has grooves cut into the top of the upper receiver compatible with "tip-off" scope bases. If your scope rings are not slipping onto the grooves, there are a few steps you can take to fix the problem. Before troubleshooting your rifle, check and make sure that it is unloaded.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the grooves on the top of your rifle. Look for any debris along the length of the grooves; carbon or dirt can quickly accumulate in small grooves, preventing the scope mounts from slipping on. Clear the grooves with a small brush and gun solvent; wipe off any solvent before continuing.

    • 2

Use your screwdriver to loosen the mounting screws on your scope bases and spread the edges sufficiently to slide onto the grooves. If the edges are too close together, they will lack the clearance to slip on.

    • 3

Slide the scope mounts onto the rifle from the back end of the grooves; once your scope is in position, tighten the scope mounts with your screwdriver.
