How to Soften a Mossberg Trigger Guard

The trigger guards on most Mossberg shotguns and rifles are made of a strong, lightweight polymer plastic, which is immune to corrosion. An additional advantage of a plastic trigger guard is that it can be partially reshaped. Heating the trigger guard causes the material to soften, the first stage of actually melting, making it pliable and easily manipulated. When you are softening your trigger guard, the plastic will become extremely hot and can burn you. For your own safety, you should wear protective gloves.

Instructions

    • 1

Check your weapon and make absolutely sure that it is unloaded.

    • 2

Aim your heat gun at the trigger guard and evenly heat the material to over 200 degrees Fahrenheit. A heat gun generates hot air, raising the temperature of the material without burning it. Under no condition should you use a torch or open flame to heat your trigger guard. Using an open flame can easily cause the plastic to melt or catch fire.

Use your fingers to manipulate the softened trigger guard. Remember that the plastic is very hot and will burn you unless you're wearing protective gloves. After you have reshaped your trigger guard, let it cool down naturally.
