How to Paint a Glock

You can give your Glock handgun a new look by painting it a new color. When you paint your Glock, you must use a suitable paint and harder mixture applied with an airbrush. If you do not have an airbrush, or wish to invest in one, disposable aerosol air brushes are available. Glock handguns consist of two major components which are made of different materials: the upper receiver (slide) is metal with a Teflon finish and lower receiver (grip) is made of a polymer plastic. The process for painting these two surfaces is identical.

  Completely disassemble your Glock pistol; this entails completely stripping your lower receiver, which includes removing the trigger assembly.

  Lightly sand down the surfaces using 600 grit sandpaper. This applies to both Teflon and polymer plastic surfaces.

  Clean off the surfaces with your degreaser/stripper solution. After you have cleaned off the weapon, tape off any areas that you do not wish to paint.

  Hang up the parts you wish to paint so that you have access to the entire surface. You may wish to consider using fishing line, or something similar, and hanging the parts from your ceiling.

  Place the finish and the harder in their respective containers on your air brush. The suggested ratio is approximately 10 to 1 (finish to hardener). Spray the finish/hardener mixture evenly onto the surface.

  Let the mixture dry for at least 12 hours (overnight) and reassemble your weapon. At this point your weapon is ready to use; however, the complete curing process for the paint takes approximately 30 days. During this time you should avoid using a holster which may affect the surface of the paint.
