How to Adjust a Night Scope

Night vision scopes give you the ability to see objects in darkness. These scopes enhance ambient light to give you a greenish vision of your surroundings. In those instances when there is no ambient light, such as in a sealed dark room, the scope produces its own with an infrared flashlight. The frequency of infrared light is undetectable to the human eye but appears very clearly when viewed with a night vision scope. Night vision scopes are battery powered and have lens covers to protect the scope from being accidentally turned on during the daytime since using your night vision scope in high light conditions can damage the scope interior.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the lens caps in a dark environment and turn on your night vision scope by activating the on/off switch. Night vision scopes typically have two switches: the unit power switch and the infrared light switch.

    • 2

Turn on the infrared light, if conditions warrant, by activating the switch adjacent to the power switch. The main power switch must be activated in order for the infrared light to operate.

    • 3

Look through your night vision scope at your desired object, and determine if it's in focus. Adjust the focus by rotating the eyepiece that's located at the back of the night vision scope (closest to your eye). Rotate the eyepiece clockwise and observe the effect on your object. If the image appears to be sharpening, continue until the image begins to blur slightly; stop rotating the eyepiece and turn your eyepiece slightly back to the point which you observed optimum focus. If the clockwise rotation further blurs your image, rotate your eyepiece counter-clockwise and follow the same technique (only in opposite directions).
