How to Use a Pull Through Reamer

A pull through chamber-reaming tool is used to ream and finish gun barrels that are either too small all the way through or tapered at one end. The device resembles a drill bit at the end of a long rod and bores through the center of the tube, cutting away the excess material and leaving a perfectly smoothed and cut center. To use a pull through reamer, you must keep the tube you are boring stationary and twist the reamer at a constant rate in one direction, making this task only for the steady-handed.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover the pull through reamer and barrel you will be using it on in cutting fluid.

    • 2

Place the barrel into a vice and tighten the vice until the object is secure.

    • 3

Place the bushing that came with the reamer onto the end of the reamer and insert it into the end of the barrel opposite the muzzle.

    • 4

Insert the rod that came with the reamer into the muzzle end of the barrel and screw it into the reamer.

    • 5

Twist the rod in a clockwise motion with pressure applied to it to advance it through the barrel. Rotate the reamer at a steady rate at roughly 60 to 200 rotations per minute.

    • 6

Twist the rod until the barrel's bolt lug spring locks. After this, stop twisting the rod.

    • 7

Twist the rod counterclockwise while applying reverse pressure to the reamer to remove the reamer from the barrel.
