How to Remove an AR-15 Forearm Loctite

Loctite produces a liquid bonding agent that is often used to secure parts on firearms. Generally, Loctite is used to keep the screws holding a scope mount strongly fastened to your weapon. Loctite can also be used to secure other non-moving parts, such as the forearm barrel guards, firmly in position; however, before you bond your hand guards into place, keep in mind that removing them is necessary to properly clean your AR-15. If your hand guards are held in position with Loctite, they still can be removed through the proper application of heat.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your AR-15 is unloaded.

    • 2

Identify the spots that have Loctite applied; if both the front and back of the hand guards need to be freed, free the back first.

    • 3

After heating the ring, put on your safety gloves (the ring will be hot) and try to pull it back, releasing the lower half of the hand guards. If the ring still does not move, continue to apply heat until the ring releases.

    • 4

Apply heat to the front of the hand guards --- if necessary --- until the hand guards release.
