Field Strip
Make sure the Remington model 1100 is unloaded before field stripping it. Check the magazine and pull back the action handle located in the ejector port in between the pump and the trigger to make sure there is no shell loaded in the chamber.
Keep the barrel pointed at a safe direction and activate the safety function by pushing in the safety button. You know the safety is off if you see the red band on the safety button.
Pull the "action" or "operating" handle back until it is locked open by the carrier latch.
Remove the magazine cap by unscrewing it.
Push the fore-end forward to remove it from the magazine tube.
Hold the barrel in front of the gas cylinder and pull the barrel out of the receiver.
Remove the piston seal, piston and barrel seal from the magazine tube by sliding each of them forward towards the direction of the muzzle.
Push the action handle forward to close the action. Using a outward motion, pull the action handle out of the bolt.
Push in the carrier release latch and push it upward on the carrier.
Push up on the feed latch located on the bottom of the receiver, and hold it open.
Pull off the action assembly and remove it from the receiver and the magazine tube.
Remove the breech bolt by lifting it off from the rear of the action bar assembly.
Tap out the front and rear trigger pins to remove them. The trigger pins are located above the trigger on the right side of the receiver in between the ejector port and trigger.
Remove the trigger plate assembly from the receiver by lifting it from the rear end of the assembly and sliding it rearward.
Cleaning and Lubricating
Attach the 12 gauge brush to the cleaning rod.
Dip the brush in the cleaning solvent.
Push the cleaning rod in and out of the shotgun barrel at least 10 times or more depending on how dirty it is.
Clean the bore by pushing the cleaning patch through it. Repeat as necessary using a new patch. You will know the bore is clean when the patches no longer appear dirty.
Apply a little solvent to a clean patch and clean off the gunpowder residue on the locking notch located in the barrel.
Insert a 1/16" diameter wire in the gas hole to clean it.
To clean the choke tube, remove it from the barrel by placing the choke tube wrench in the barrel and turning it counter-clockwise. Apply solvent to a patch and rub it over the choke tube and over all the threads also. Once it is cleaned, evenly apply gun oil and reassemble the choke tube.
Clean the action bars by applying solvent on a cleaning brush until it is clean, then wipe it dry with a new patch. After the action bars are cleaned, apply an even layer of lubricating oil.
To clean the breech bolt, apply solvent to a new patch and wipe it down until it is clean. You can also use a cleaning brush on the breech bolt if you like. Apply a light and even coat of oil to the breech bolt before re-installing.
To clean the trigger plate, it is recommended to use Rem oil to clean and lubricate it. Further disassembly of the trigger plate and the use of cleaning solvent is unnecessary. Spray the Rem oil on the trigger plate assembly and shake off any excess Rem oil, let it stand for 15 minutes.
To clean the receiver assembly, brush the inside with a little solvent and wipe dry with a new cleaning patch.
Clean the outer surface of the magazine tube with a cleaning patch dipped in solvent and wipe clean with dry rag or cloth.
Reassembly
Look inside the receiver to see if the link is in its correct position.
Starting with the trigger plate assembly, make sure the end of the disconnector is sitting below the left connector. The disconnector and left connector are located above the trigger guard within the trigger plate assembly.
Insert the trigger plate assembly into the receiver starting with the carrier. Do this carefully because the trigger plate assembly is comprised of many little parts that can be damaged if handled roughly.
Once the trigger plate assembly is in the receiver, align it with the trigger plate pin holes and tap in the front and rear trigger plate pins.
Place the breech bolt assembly on the block located on the rear end of the action bar assembly.
Slide in the action bar assembly all the way into the receiver until it hits the feed latch.
Activate the carrier release and push the carrier upwards.
Press and hold the feed latch by reaching into the bottom of the receiver opening.
Insert the action bar assembly into the receiver by sliding it all the way in and make sure to release the feed latch.
Slide the action handle in the breech bolt.
Slide in the piston, piston seal assembly and barrel seal over the magazine tube, starting with the piston and piston seal and then the barrel seal.
Pull the action handle all the way back to open the action and re-insert the barrel.
Apply the fore end back on the magazine tube and apply the magazine cap back on tightly.
