How to Fix a Laser Boresighter

Using a laser boresighter to sight in your rifle is a quick, safe and effective method. The boresighter is placed in the end of the barrel and a laser beam is projected to the target. The laser beam indicates the projected point of impact of the rifle's bullet by aligning your scope's crosshairs to the laser beam you sight in your rifle. Laser boresighters are simple in design and relatively easy to use. Common problems can be fixed with a slight adjustment.

Instructions

  1. Drifting Laser Beam

    • 1

Shut off the boresighter and remove it from the barrel. Check to make sure that a properly sized plastic caliber-adapter is attached to the end of the stem; if the adapter is incorrect, remove and replace it with the proper-sized adapter.

    • 2

Snugly place the boresighter back into the end of the rifle barrel and turn it back on.

    • 3

Aim your rifle at your target, at a neutral or positive angle. Aiming with a negative or downward angle may cause the boresighter to slip out of the end of the barrel.

    Dead Batteries

    • 4

Remove the rotating "on/off" switch from the side of the boresighter. The switch is held in place by a small spring and holds the batteries in place.

    • 5

Take out the old batteries and replace them with new ones. Make sure that the batteries are installed correctly and place the "on/ off" switch back into position.

    • 6

Check the boresighter by turning it on. If the beam fails, then the problem may be with the laser itself.
