AR 15 Cleaning Tools

The right to own a firearm is one cherished by many Americans. Most states require you to reach the age of 21 before becoming a licensed gun owner. One of the many responsibilities of owning a firearm is maintenance. Whether you own a handgun or an AR-15, you must clean it regularly.
  1. Brushes and Rods

    • Different brushes exist for the purpose of cleaning AR-15 rifles. Brushes are produced to fit standard-sized cleaning rods and come with either bronze or nylon bristles. Both the brass and nylon tufts work to remove residue from the barrel and locking lug recesses.

Some cleaning rods are coated to to prevent scratching. Others are brass and stainless steel. Available with adapters for standard male thread brushes, rods generally come in sizes 17C or 20C. Both sizes will fit the AR-15's .223 barrel.

    Cleaning Kits

    • Cleaning Kits are available that focus on the upper receiver and the buttstock of an AR-15. The upper receiver kit has tools for cleaning the upper receiver and locking lug recess. Specializing in quickly loosening carbon residue from your firearm, these kits make the difficult job of cleaning your AR-15 easy. The AR-15 buttstock cleaning kit comes complete with a carrying case that includes a five-piece cleaning rod, bronze bore brush, double-ended cleaning brush and bronze chamber brush.

    Full Tool Kits

    • While not necessary for field-stripping and basic cleaning, tool kits provide you with everything you need to completely disassemble this type of rifle. Kits are available in either standard or premium versions and both are packaged in custom-fitted tool boxes. Some of the tools found in either kit include plastic/brass hammers, snap ring pliers, pivot-pin detent installation tools and various other specialty tools.
