Things You'll Need
Instructions
Read the directions and safety advisories on your Panther Stun Gun before use. While a stun gun is a non-lethal weapon, it can cause serious injury, or even death, if used improperly.
Insert batteries into your stun gun. Depending on your model, your Panther Stun Gun will take either one or two 9-volt alkaline batteries.
Turn the stun gun on. All Panther Stun Guns have an on/off switch on the side of the unit. All Panther models also have a safety switch. You can keep the safety on, regardless of whether the stun gun is on or off. However, you must turn the safety off before the stun gun can be fired.
Evaluate your surroundings. If you are in a familiar, well-lighted area in the company of friends or family, you might not need to have your stun gun close at hand. If you're walking through a dark or unfamiliar area, particularly if you are alone, you may feel more comfortable having your stun gun on and ready to go.
Place the stun gun on your attacker. For best results, Panther suggests placing the stun gun on an individual's torso. You will not feel the shock, even if your attacker is touching you.
Keep your finger on the trigger for as long as it takes you to free yourself from your attacker. The website Survival In Sight reports that a short stun of less than two seconds will temporarily disable your attacker, but a longer stun of three to five seconds has the power to knock your attacker down for up to several minutes.
Follow any additional directions from your instructor if you are using the Panther Stun Gun during a training course.
