Traditional Dovetail Scopes Mount
Examine your scope rings and mount bases; check them by hand for any play. If the problem is only with the scope rings, you may not have to continue removing the rings. You can fix the problem by tightening the screws on the rings.
Remove the top halves of the scope rings with the appropriate-sized Allen wrench, One screw is located on each side of the ring. Remove the scope from the rings.
Turn the bottom halves of the rings 90 degrees -- they should be parallel with the barrel -- and remove them from the bases. Use your small, slotted screwdriver to check the scope-mount retention screws for tightness. If they are loose you can tighten or remove them. Place the drop of bonding agent on the screws and reinstall them.
Reinstall the bottom halves of the dovetail scope rings. Place the scope back into position and screw the tops of the rings back on. Add a drop of bonding agent to the scope-ring screws.
Tactical Rail Mount
Check the retention screws at the base of your scope rings for tightness. These screws hold the mounting bracket over the sides of the rail. These screws are most likely to loosen when using the tactical rail-mount, since many shooters tighten them by hand.
Tighten the retention screws by hand. Use a slotted screwdriver to advance the screws an additional 1/4- turn, but do not over-tighten. An advantage of a rail mount is the ability to quickly release and remove your scope; using a bonding agent may complicate this action.
Check the screws on the scope rings. Tighten them if they are loose.
