How to Improve a Ruger 10/22

Ruger 10/22 rifles are chambered to fire the small -- and inexpensive -- .22 LR bullet. Exceptionally accurate, the 10/22 is a great choice for target practice or small game hunting. The rifles come standard with open sights but are pre-drilled and tapped to accommodate mounting a rifle scope. Mounting a scope and zeroing it can greatly enhance your accuracy and improve your performance. For zeroing the scope on a .22 caliber rifle the use of a laser boresighter is recommended. Before installing or zeroing the scope, check and make sure that the rifle is unloaded.

Instructions

  1. Scope Mounting

    • 1

Use your small flat-head screwdriver to remove the four screw plugs from the top of your rifle.

    • 2

Place the scope mount on the rifle and -- using the screws supplied with your mount -- screw the mount securely into position.

    • 3

Remove the top halves of your scope rings, place your scope into position and put the tops of the rings back on, but do not completely tighten them.

    • 4

Position your scope so that the crosshairs appear directly vertically and horizontally and so that you have a clear sight picture. Finish tightening the rings.

    Scope Zeroing

    • 5

Set up a target at a range of approximately 100 feet.

    • 6

Install the laser by inserting the stem of the end laser boresighter into the rifle's barrel and turn on the switch at the side of the laser.

    • 7

Aim at your target and notice where the laser beam is hitting your target in relation to the center of your crosshairs.

    • 8

Adjust the crosshairs so that they intersect on the laser beam. To move the horizontal crosshairs turn the dial on the right hand side of the scope counter-clockwise for right or clockwise for left. To move the vertical crosshairs turn the dial on top of your scope counter-clockwise for up or clockwise for down.
