How to Use a Bayonet Wire Cutter

One of the most inventive features on a bayonet is its wire-cutter tool. Designed to aid soldiers in forward combat areas where barbed and electrical wire abound, the wire-cutter function on a bayonet can be used by civilians for hobbies and projects around the house. While the bayonet is primarily used as a weapon in war, it doubles nicely as a useful tool back home.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the bayonet from its scabbard.

    • 2

Flip the scabbard over. Locate the wire-cutter plate on the backside of the scabbard.

    • 3

Fit the stud on the wire-cutter plate into the hole on the bayonet. The false blade, or back edge, of the bayonet should face toward the tip of the scabbard and the wire-cutting notch. The bayonet should now be securely attached to the scabbard.

    • 4

Insert the wire you wish to cut into the notch above the false blade of the bayonet.

    • 5

While holding the scabbard securely in one hand, push the knife handle down and away from the wire-cutting area with your other hand. The false blade will cut the wire as it moves across the notch.
