How to Cut Down the Butt of a Glock

Glock was the first weapons manufacturer to produce a pistol with a plastic grip. This plastic can be cut to shorten the length of the grip. As long as the cut is made below the magazine release and trigger assembly the function of the weapon will remain intact. Shortening the length of your grip will allow you to use magazines from smaller-sized models; for example, if you sufficiently shorten the grip of a full-size model you can use magazines designed for compact or even subcompact pistols.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to make sure your pistol is unloaded and disassemble. Separate the grip from the rest the components.

    • 2

Use your ruler to measure the desired length that you wish to remove from the bottom of the grip and mark it off with your scribe. Position your ruler across the grip, using your mark as a guide, and use the scribe to scratch a straight line across the grip, this line should represent where you want your cut to be.

    • 3

Place your cloth on either side of the upper portion of your grip -- as protection for the surface -- and place the grip in the bench vice so that you have easy access to the part you wish to cut off.

    • 4

Use your hacksaw and -- very carefully -- begin to cut. Continue until you have sawed off the end of the grip. Sand down the edges of the cut with your fine sandpaper.
