What Cartridges Can Be Used in a Remington 770 WM?

The Remington model 770 WM (Winchester Magnum) is a bolt-action rifle chambered for the powerful .300 Winchester Magnum cartridge. The rifle features a synthetic stock and a 24-inch barrel. Because of the large size of the cartridges, the rifle's magazine capacity is limited to three rounds. There are several ammunition manufacturers that produce .300 Win Mag cartridges. There are also several configurations of the cartridge and bullet combination, designed for specific shooting applications.
  1. Soft Point Ammunition

    • Soft-point ammunition is commonly used for big-game hunting. The cartridge's soft-point bullet is designed to transfer more energy when it hits the target. The cartridges are typically available with three different bullet weights: 150 grains (gr.), 165 gr. and 180 gr.

    Power Point Ammunition

    • These cartridges feature a metal jacket (coating) around the bullet which folds back when the bullet strikes its target. The power point has notches around the front of the bullet to provide uniform and rapid expansion upon impact. The cartridges are commonly available with bullet weights of 150 gr. and 180 gr.

    TAP LE Ammunition

    • These cartridges are designed specifically for law enforcement to provide a straighter trajectory and greater ballistic performance then the .308 Winchester cartridges commonly used in precision shooting. The cartridge is topped with a Hornady A-Max 178 gr. match-grade bullet.

    Boat-tail Spire Point Ammunition

    • These cartridges are designed for target practice or sport shooting. Boat-tail bullets are typically used by hand loaders; however, factory-loaded ammunition provides consistency that hand-loaded ammunition often fails to deliver. Boat-tail bullets typically weigh 150 gr.
