How to Change a Glock Spring

The spring in a Glock semi-automatic pistol serves to pull the slide assembly back into position after the recoil of the weapon firing pushes it back. The action of the slide assembly moving back and forth ejects the empty shell casing from the chamber and loads the next bullet into position. If your pistol is not feeding correctly, the problem may be a defective recoil spring. Replacing it with a new Glock recoil spring can alleviate feeding problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to make sure that your Glock pistol is not loaded.

    • 2

Separate the slide assembly from the lower receiver--the grip.

    • 3

Turn the slide assembly bottom-side up and remove the guide rod/recoil spring assembly. The spring will lift off the barrel without resistance.

    • 4

Remove the old spring from the guide rod and replace it with a new one. Only use a replacement spring manufactured--or endorsed--by Glock that is designed for your particular pistol model. (See Resources.)

    • 5

Place the guide spring assembly back into position and reassemble your Glock pistol.
