How to Remove an AK-47 Muzzle Brake

Most muzzle brakes found on AK-47 rifles feature a slanted cut to the upper right of the brake. The purpose of this slant is to divert gases when the weapon is fired to prevent excessive muzzle climb. The muzzle brake on an AK-47 rife is a threaded piece designed to be screwed on or off the end of the barrel. The muzzle brake is held in position by a retaining pin that protrudes out over the barrel from the front sight. The retaining pin is spring-loaded to keep it in position. The pin's purpose is basically to prevent the muzzle brake from unscrewing.

    • 1

Make sure your AK-47 rifle is unloaded.

    • 2

Press the muzzle brake retention pin, located directly above the barrel, into its hole in the body of the front sight. The retention pin must be in far enough to allow clearance for the muzzle brake to unscrew.

    • 3

Unscrew the muzzle brake by turning it clockwise. You should be able to unscrew it by hand, but if necessary use an adjustable wrench to assist you in removing the muzzle brake.
