How to Clean a Silencer

A silencer, otherwise referred to as a suppressor, muffles the noise when a bullet is fired. Many individuals often associate those who use silencers with sinister characters, or otherwise unlawful people. However, silencers are legal to own and use, such as for hunting, in many countries and states. Just like any weapon, a silencer needs periodic cleaning to ensure that it works properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Unload the weapon completely. Remove the magazine if applicable then visually inspect the chamber to ensure no ammunition is present.

    • 2

Unscrew the silencer from the muzzle to remove it.

    • 3

Pour gun-cleaning solution into a bowl. Place the silencer in the bowl and leave it to soak for 24 hours. You can substitute a thermos for a bowl by placing the silencer upright to soak.

    • 4

Remove the silencer then rinse it out thoroughly with hot, soapy water. This will remove any ammonia residue from the cleaning solution which may damage the silencer.

    • 5

Blow the silencer out with an air compressor until completely dry.
