How to Zero a Windage Knob on a Bushnell 6500 Tactical Scope

The Bushnell model 6500 scopes are incredibly versatile; they can be used for targeting extremely close and distant objects. The windage-adjustment dial is located centrally on the scope on the right-hand side and is protected with a push/pull turret. This is also true of the elevation adjustment dial -- located on the top of the scope -- and the parallax compensation dial -- located on the left-hand side. The windage-adjustment dial can be manipulated by hand and provides audible clicks for each adjustment; each click moves the windage crosshair 1/4-inch for a target set at 100 yards.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the turret cover on the windage adjustment dial to the outer position. The dial will move freely when in the "out" position.

    • 2

Determine how far you need to move your crosshairs along the horizontal plane; the vertical crosshair should be aligned with the bullet's projected point-of-impact. When zeroing in your scope you are aligning the intersection of the cross hairs with the location where the bullet hits the target. The scope is designed to be calibrated at 100 yards. For example, if your vertical crosshair is 1-inch to the right of the point of impact -- on a target at a range of 100 yards -- then you need to move your crosshair 1-inch to the left, or four "clicks."

    • 3

Move your crosshairs as necessary. Move them left by turning the dial clockwise, or right by turning the dial counterclockwise.

    • 4

Push the turret cover back to the "in" position. This locks the dial in position.
