How to Jewel a Gun Bolt

For those of us who like to add glitz to our cars, clothes and jewelry, add a little pizzazz to your gun by jewelling the gun bolt. This will not alter the gun's actions in any way, but it will make people notice your rifle across a crowded room. Be as creative as you want. Design a repeating pattern or just wing it by allowing the drill bit to make lines and ridges across the length of the bolt. You can make it as simple or fancy as you want. The main idea is to have fun and personalize your rifle.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the bolt of your gun into a vise so you can expose as much of the bolt as possible and make it easy to access.

    • 2

Sand the entire surface of the bolt using 600 grit sandpaper strips. Move the bolt in the vise to reach the parts that were covered previously.

    • 3

Fix the bolt into the stand included with the bolt jewelling kit and tighten in place.

    • 4

Put the rubber abrasive rod into your drill and turn it on. Set the end of the rod directly down onto one end of the bolt on the side facing upward.

    • 5

Lift the rod away to reveal the first jewel. Slide the bolt along the stand by 1/8 of inch and lower the rod again. The second jewel will overlap the first by ½ inch.

    • 6

Jewel the entire row on the upper side of the bolt in the same way. Turn the bolt a little when you reach the end and make another row. Keep doing this until you have jeweled the entire surface.
