How to Adjust a Vintage Weaver KV Scope

Weaver rifle scopes were first manufactured in the early 20th century; many of these vintage scopes are still on the market. Correct scope adjustment is crucial to successful firearm use. When using a vintage Weaver KV scope it is important to know how to properly adjust it.

Rifle
Weaver KV scope
Bore sighting scope
Gun vice
Bullets
Rifle rest

  Secure your rifle in a gun vice. This will prevent any excess movement during the scope adjusting process.

  Attach a bore sight to the end of the barrel of the rifle. Bore sights fit into the end of the barrel and are secured by tightening the screws against the barrel. Bore sights contain a piece of clear glass; the glass forms a grid that allows rifle scopes to be calibrated.

  Look down the scope and adjust the knob on its top until the vertical lines of the scope are aligned with the grid on the bore sight.

  Look down the scope and adjust the knob on its side until the horizontal lines of the scope are aligned with the grid on the bore sight.

  Remove the bore sight from the end of the rifle barrel.

  Remove the rifle from the gun vice.

  Adjust the scope in the field. Find a safe firing area, set the rifle in a gun rest and fire at a target. Make fine adjustments to the horizontal and vertical axis of the vintage Weaver KV scope based on the accuracy of your shots at the target.
