How to Mount a Tactical Scope

Tactical rifle scopes are generally differentiated from sporting scopes by the mil-dot crosshairs; these dots or tick marks are strategically placed along the crosshairs to help the shooter estimate the range to target. Tactical rifle scopes can also be used for non-tactical purposes such as hunting or target shooting. The majority of tactical rifle scopes are commonly mounted on tactical rifles--either semiautomatic versions of military rifles or weapons capable of full automatic fire -- as in the case of the military and specialized law enforcement. Most tactical rifle scopes are mounted using a rail mounting system that is common among military type weapons.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the halves of your rail mount scope rings and attach them to your scope with the Allen wrench provided with the rings. Do not completely tighten the rings.

    • 2

Loosen the retention screws at the base of the scope rings so that you can spread the mounting bracket--also located at the base of the rings--apart.

    • 3

Align the retention screws with the slots across the rail mount and position the bracket over the sides of the mount. Secure the bracket by tightening the screws.

    • 4

Position your tactical scope to give you adequate eye relief and so that the scope crosshairs appear straight up and across when viewed through the scope. Finish tightening the screws on the scope mounts.
