How to Mount a Scope on an AR-15 Removable Handle

If your AR-15 rifle has a removable handle, you have two options for mounting a scope: either removing the handle and mounting your scope directly onto the rifle, or attaching a rail mount to the top of your handle and then mounting your scope. The technique for mounting a scope on the removable handle also applies to AR-15 rifles with permanent-carry handles. Using to carry handle to mount your scope does cause the scope to sit higher above the barrel but gives you the advantage of using the handle.

Instructions

  1. Mount Installation

    • 1

Inspect your AR-15 rifle to make sure that is unloaded.

    • 2

Unscrew the round nut from the retaining bolt located at the bottom of the rail mount.

    • 3

Slide the bolt through the hole located on top of the carry handle and seat the rail mount onto the handle. The mount should appear parallel to the barrel; if not it might be on backward.

    • 4

Screw the round nut back onto the retaining bolt, securing the mount to the handle.

    Scope Installation

    • 5

Loosen the retention screws at the base of your scope rings -- the rings must be compatible with rail mounts -- and spread the mounting bracket.

    • 6

Place the scope on the mount with the ring retention screws in the grooves cut across the mount.

    • 7

Position the mounting bracket over the sides of the mount and tighten the retention screws.
