Things You'll Need
Instructions
Unload the weapon completely and remove the stock. The process for removing the stock will vary on all wooden-stock weapons. Consult your owner's manual for accurate directions.
Sand the stock to remove any original stain. Use a coarse, 70-grit sandpaper. Blend any scratching by using a medium-grade 120-grit sandpaper. Finish and smooth the stock with a 400-grit sandpaper.
Sketch a design onto the wood using a pencil. The design you choose is a matter of personal preference and style.
Carve the design using hand chisels and carving tools; you may opt to trace your design with a wood burner. If carving, lightly sand down the carved grooves with 400-grit sandpaper.
Apply your preferred stain or sealant to the stock. This process varies depending on what stain or sealant you use. Apply two coats of stain for a rich color.
Reassemble your weapon after you have allowed the stock to dry thoroughly.
