How to Disassemble a Sig Bayonet Army Knife

The Swiss Sig 57 bayonet army knife is an excellent quality bayonet that is also usable as a field knife. Made by Victorinox, the maker of the Swiss army knife, this bayonet is available at outlets that sell military surplus equipment. Because these bayonets are military surplus, it is possible that rust could form underneath the handle due to trapped moisture or corrosive substances. Therefore, the purchaser should disassemble the bayonet and clean and oil all metal surfaces.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Locate and remove the two screws from the pommel, then remove the spring and locking piece.

    • 2

Insert the screwdriver into the recess that the locking piece fits into, and use it as a lever to turn the pommel counter-clockwise until it comes off the tang.

    • 3

Wiggle the plastic handle until it comes off, then pull the crossguard off.

    • 4

Clean the tang and all metal parts with a Brillo pad and hot water. The use of water breaks down any salts that may be present.

Wipe off the parts with the rag and set them aside to dry.

    • 5

Apply CLP to all metal parts, using the rag as an applicator.

    • 6

Reassemble in reverse order of disassembly.
