Three-point slings were designed for the military to let soldiers carry their weapons in a more accessible manner than conventional slings allow. With a conventional sling, the rifle is carried over the shooter̵7;s shoulder and must be unslung before the weapon can be used. With a three-point sling, the weapon is carried in front of the soldier and can be immediately accessed. A three-point sling is similar to a conventional sling; however, it has a large loop that extends from the end of the rifle to the center of the rifle. This loop is placed over the shooters chest or shoulder and supports the weapon in front of a soldier, where it can immediately be fired.

Lay out your sling next to your M4 rifle with the loop end next to the rear of the rifle.

Attach the front strap of the sling to the sling-retention ring located on the left side of the rifle, next to the front sight.

Stretch the sling out to its full length and weave the separate strap through the slot located on the rear stock. Strap the sling to the stock , thereby allowing the sling to loop around to the center of the sling.
