How to Open a Broken Electric Lock on a Gun Safe

Gun safes with electronic locks offer excellent security for keeping your guns out of the wrong hands. Electronic gun safes usually derive their power from batteries that are installed behind the keypad. However, in the event that the lock should fail, either through the loss of power or mechanical failure, there is a keypad override that can be accessed by removing the keypad. The safe can be opened by using a skeleton key that should have been provided to you when you purchased the safe.

     Hold the electronic keyboard with your thumbs pointed downward along the right and left sides.

     Disconnect the keypad by pushing it upward with your thumbs. Remove the battery holder from the door by unsnapping it. Behind the battery holder is a key hole.

     Place the skeleton key into the keyhole, turn it to the right and open the door.
