How to Mount Handgun Scopes

For precision shooting with a handgun, mounting a scope is an excellent way to increase accuracy. Mounting a handgun scope is similar to mounting a scope on a rifle, requiring a mounting base and scope rings. Handgun scopes are generally more compatible with revolvers than semiautomatic pistols. This is because the frame of a revolver does not move when the weapon is fired, whereas the entire upper receiver on a pistol slides back and forth when the pistol is fired.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the plug screws from the top of the revolver's frame. The screws are installed to fill the predrilled mounting holes found on most revolvers.

    • 2

Align the mount with the screw holes. Attach the screws to the handgun with an Allen wrench.

    • 3

Place the base of the scope rings into the holes on top of the mounts, so that the rings are parallel with the barrel. Turn the rings 90 degrees so they lock into position.

    • 4

Remove the top halves of the scope rings by removing the retaining screws. Place your scope in position. Reattach the top halves of the scope rings, but do not completely tighten the retention screws.

    • 5

Position the scope so that the crosshairs appear straight up and straight across when viewed through the scope. Finish tightening the retention screws.
