How to Install Weaver Scope Mounts

Weaver scope mounts are designed in a dovetail shape and are often referred to as rail mounts. The shooter can quickly attach or remove a Weaver scope mount without special tools. The mounts can accommodate accessories such as flashlights or lasers, and are common among tactical weapons (many of which have the mounts integrated into their design). The mounts are also compatible with bolt action hunting rifles.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe off the surfaces of the Weaver scope mount and the rifle's receiver, where the scope will be mounted. Cleaning prevents dirt from getting between the mount and the rifle, which could possibly affect the alignment of the mount.

    • 2

Remove the plug screws from your rifle's upper receiver. Plug screws are installed by the manufacturer in the holes to be used for a scope mount. The plug screws are located on top of your rifle close to the action.

    • 3

Position your Weaver scope mount over the mounting holes in the rifle and screw into position. Weaver mounts are not limited to Weaver scopes--they can be used with any brand of rifle scope. Weaver mounts can also be used for mounting flashlights, lasers or other accessories to your rifle, using the same method you would for a scope.
