How to Mount Scope Rings

You can mount scope rings onto your rifle using one of two methods. With the conventional method you attach mounts, compatible with your scope rings, to the rifle's upper receiver and lock the rings directly into the mounts. The other method is using Weaver style scope rings, which attach directly to a Weaver style base. Weaver style scope mounts are prominent among military style weapons and allow the shooter to quickly attach or remove scopes or other accessories.

Instructions

  1. Conventional Mounting

    • 1

Use your screwdriver to remove the plug screws from the rifle's upper receiver. Plug screws are installed by the rifles manufacturer in the scope mount screw holes to prevent moisture from accumulating.

    • 2

Clean the surface of your rifle and the mounting bases. Place the mounts on the rifle and screw them into position.

    • 3

Insert the base of the rings into the holes on top of the mounts so that they are parallel to the barrel.

    • 4

Turn the rings 1/4 of a turn; they will lock into position.

    Weaver Mounting

    • 5

Attach the Weaver base using the same procedure described for conventional mounting.

    • 6

Unscrew the retention rings located at the base of the Weaver scope rings so that the bracket, which they keep in place, can be widened.

    • 7

Put the scope rings on the base with a retention screws parallel and inside one of the slots that are cut across the base. Line up the sides of the bracket with the sides of the base and tighten the screws, securing the scope rings into position.
