Glock Pistol Information

Glock pistols are used by military and law enforcement agencies worldwide and also enjoy widespread use among civilian shooters. Glock pistols have a reputation for durability, reliability and safety. The pistol’s safe action, which keeps the weapon uncocked until the trigger is pulled, is unique to Glock firearms and makes it an excellent choice for personal protection.
  1. Glock's Double Action

    • Glock pistols are often referred to as a “double action,” due to their heavy trigger pull of 5.5 pounds. Unlike many other semiautomatic pistols—which can be fired single action, significantly reducing the trigger pull—Glock pistols consistently require the same amount of trigger pull for every bullet fired.

    Glock's Safe Action

    • Glock handguns feature the “safe action” system, a series of safeties designed to prevent the weapon from accidentally discharging. The safeties disengage as the trigger is pulled and reengage when the trigger is released. The safe action safeties consist of a trigger safety (preventing unintentional trigger pulling), a firing pin safety (separating the firing pin from the chamber) and a drop safety (preventing firing pin movement due to impact).

    Construction

    • The lower receiver, or grip, of the pistol is constructed from a strong plastic polymer. The magazine is also constructed primarily from polymer. Polymer plastic is lightweight, impervious to rust or corrosion and extremely durable. The metal surfaces are coated with Tenifer, a trademarked process that increases the pistol’s surface hardness almost to diamond-level hardness. Tenifer protects the metal from corrosion and scratches.

    Glock's Simplicity

    • Glock pistols were designed to be low-maintenance and easy to disassemble. A Glock pistol consists of only five major parts: the lower receiver, the magazine, the slide assembly, the barrel and the guide spring assembly. The pistol can be broken down into these components without the use of any special tools.

    Glock Models

    • Glock currently produces 21 pistol models available in 9mm, .40, 10mm, .45 GAP, .45ACP, .380 and .357 calibers. Six are full-size models, five are compact models, eight are subcompact models and two are competition models.

Glock also produces eight “C” model handguns. These models have vents cut into the top of the barrel and slide assembly; this configuration diverts gases to compensate for the weapon’s recoil.
