How to Mount a Scope on a Yugo SKS

To mount a scope on your Yugoslavian SKS rifle, you must first replace the original receiver cover with a cover that is compatible with scopes. Replacement covers are available with weaver-style scope mounts already affixed to them. Weaver-style scope mounts allow you to quickly attach scopes equipped with weaver-style school rings; most tactical scopes are produced to be used exclusively with weaver-style scope mounts. Before modifying your weapon, always check that your SKS rifle is unloaded.

     Rotate the cover retaining pin (at the rear of the receiver) to the up position, pull it out to the right and slide off the receiver cover (by pulling it rearward).

     Slide on the new receiver cover and return the retaining pin to its original position.

     Loosen the retention screws (at the base of your scope) and place the scope on the weaver mount.

     Position the scope's retention bracket along the sides of the mount and tighten the screws. Your scope is now mounted.
