What Is the Difference Between a Glock 33 & a Glock 27?

The Glock G33 and G27 pistols appear nearly identical. They are both sub-compact pistols designed for concealed carry, feature Glock's "safe-action" system and have a trigger pull of 5.5 pounds. The difference between the two is in the ammunition they use: The G33 uses .357-caliber bullets; the G27 uses .40-caliber bullets. The G33 has been named the "pocket rocket" by Glock because of how easy it is to conceal this powerful little gun.
  1. Pistol Weight

    • The G33 weights 19.75 ounces empty and 26.63 ounces loaded. The G27 also weights 19.75 ounces empty but weighs 26.98 ounces loaded. The loaded weights are based on a handgun weight with a standard magazine.

    Pistol Dimensions

    • The two pistols have an identical length of 6.29 inches, a width of 1.18 inches and lines of sight (between the front and rear sights) of 5.67 inches.

    Magazine Capacity

    • Again, these two pistols share a common variable: their magazine capacity. Both models come with a standard magazine of nine rounds and have optional magazines available with capacities of 11, 13, 15 and 17 rounds. But it's here where the difference becomes apparent; the G33 magazines accommodate the .357 Sig round and the G27, the .40 S&W bullet.

    .357 Sig Bullet

    • The .357 Sig bullet was designed by Sig Sauer for use in a semiautomatic pistol. When compared to the .40 S&W, it tends to be lighter with a higher velocity. The .357 Sig is becoming increasingly popular with law enforcement because of its reported superiority in producing fatal shots.

    .40 S&W Bullet

    • The .40 S&W Bullet was developed by Smith and Wesson as a bullet small enough for a large-capacity magazine but large enough to be formidable. The .40 S&W is heavier and enjoys popularity among law enforcement, military and civilian shooters alike.
