Glock G36 Vs. G30

At first glance, the Glock model G30 and G36 pistols look nearly identical. Both are big bore sub-compact handguns and are chambered in the powerful .45 ACP. Both pistols feature a 3.78-inch barrel and have an identical trigger pull of 5.5 pounds. However, upon closer examination, there are distinct differences that should be considered before making a choice.
  1. Weight

    • The G30 has an empty weight of 23.99 ounces and a loaded weight of 33.86 ounces (with a standard 10-round magazine). The G36 is a lighter gun with an empty weight of 20.11 ounces and a loaded weight of 26.99 ounces (with standard six-round magazine).

    Dimensions

    • Both pistols are 6.77 inches long but the G30 is 1.27 inches wide, compared to the slimmer G36 with a width of 1.13 inches. The G36 is referred to as a sub-compact ̶0;slimline̶1; for this reason.

    Line of Sight

    • G30 has a line of sight distance of 5.95 inches compared to the G36 with a slightly longer distance of 6.18 inches. The distance of a pistol̵7;s line of sight directly affects its aiming accuracy (the longer the distance, the greater the accuracy).

    Magazine Capacity

    • The greatest difference between the guns is magazine capacity. The G30 comes standard with a 10-round magazine and has optional nine- and 13-round magazines available. The G36 is limited to a six-round magazine. The reason for the greater capacity in the G30 is that the magazines are staggered, meaning that the bullets are stacked slightly off-center (one more to the left, the next one more to the right). The G36 has single-stack magazines (placing the bullets directly on top of another); this design limits the capacity, but allows for a slimmer weapon.

    Things to Consider

    • The G36 was designed for concealed carry--its slim design is less detectable--but at the cost of magazine capacity. The G30 was also designed for concealed carry but with its larger magazine is slightly bulkier and has a wider grip. Both of these guns are fine choices.
