How to Fit a Pistol Shoulder Holster

Modern shoulder holsters let you carry a concealed handgun, with the muzzle pointing directly behind you, and two spare magazines in relative comfort. Shoulder holsters disperse the weight evenly across the wearer's back and provide easy access to your weapon. The set-up and fitting is important to the wear-ability and comfort of the shoulder holster. You may find it easier to have someone help you. Before fitting your holster, make absolutely sure that your handgun is unloaded.

Instructions

    • 1

Arrange the components on a flat surface as they would appear from behind. Form an X with the straps and place the center disc (intersecting the straps) with the manufacturer's name right side and facing you. Further arrange the holster and the magazine carrier in their respective positions with the strap loops facing center.

    • 2

Thread the straps through the loops with the unfinished sides facing each other and the excess strap protruding on the side closest to your body.

    • 3

Put your unloaded handgun in the holster and place two loaded magazines in the magazine carrier. The magazines must be loaded to compensate for the weight of the handgun during the fitting process.

    • 4

Put on your holster with the disk intersecting the straps placed high and central to your back

    • 5

Adjust the straps so that the handgun is level and approximately 3 to 4 inches below your armpit. Repeat the process for the magazine carrier.

    • 6

Check the shoulder holster fit by extending the arm closest to the handgun straight down. If the holster is properly fitted, the front of your arm should be approximately two inches from the handgun grip.

    • 7

Install the strap screws (provided that your model has them) with the screw face away from your body; if your holster does not have retention screws, simply make sure that the straps are secure.

    • 8

Cut off the excess strapping with scissors or a razor blade.
