How to Use an ACOG Scope With a Sniper

The Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG) scope is produced by Trijicon and designed for tactical use. ACOG scopes are specially designed to effectively function in a variety of lighting conditions. An advantage of the scope is that it features illuminated reticles that operate without the need of batteries. The ACOG scope contains fiber optics with tritium (a self-luminous radioactive material) that reacts to ambient light to provide optimum illumination for any light condition. The ACOG scope is adaptable for sniper applications.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the operation of your ACOG scope by entering a dark room with your scope and, after your eyes are adjusted to the darkness, looking through the scope. If functioning properly, the illuminated reticle will be visible.

    • 2

Attach your ACOG scope to your rifle by widening the scope clamp assembly (at the base of the scope) and aligning the mounting screws with the grooves in the weaver mounting base. Tighten the mounting screws until finger-tight, then make an additional 1/4 turn using a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 3

Zero in your ACOG scope by using a boresighter to determine the rifle's projected point of impact and adjust the scope's crosshairs so that they intersect on that spot. Adjust the vertical axis by turning the dial (located on the top of the scope) counterclockwise for up and clockwise for down. Similarly, adjust the horizontal axis by turning the dial (located on the right side of the scope) counterclockwise for right and clockwise for left. When adjusted, your scope is ready for use.
