Gun Cleaning Disassembly Guides

You should clean and oil the major components of your gun after each session at the firing range. It takes less than 20 minutes to accomplish and will increase the accuracy and function of the gun. Deep cleaning with complete disassembly should probably be done every 5,000 rounds.

Every time you clean your gun, do a visual inspection for wear and cracks. If you find any, be sure to have them repaired by a professional before attempting to fire the gun again.
  1. Safety First

    • Check and recheck to be sure the gun is unloaded before attempting to disassemble the firearm. Have all your supplies on hand, including lube, solvent, soft cloth and brushes for your gun's size.

    Disassemble the Gun

    • If possible, refer to your owner's manual. Each gun has specific manufacturer's instructions for disassembly. Most automatics have a special spring that must be removed and reinstalled in a specific direction. You can damage your gun if the spring is not installed properly.

Work on a clean, dry, nonslip surface. Keep the work area clear, and lay out parts of the gun carefully to facilitate reassembly.

    Clean, Reassemble and Lube

    • Clean and inspect each piece of the gun. Use the solvent to remove any buildup, and look for any worn or stressed areas on the gun. Cracks should be repaired by professional gunsmiths only.

Reassemble the gun in reverse order from disassembly.

Lube any moving parts as you reassemble. Only use oil that is specifically manufactured for gun lubrication.
