How to Load a Smith and Wesson .500 Magnum

The Smith and Wesson .500 Magnum redefined powerful handguns. This gun has a large kickback attached to it, and most gun owners first notice how large the revolver is. The sheer size of this gun can be intimidating at first. The .500 Magnum is a double-action gun so the gun is ready to be fired right after loaded. Proper understanding of how to load a .500 Magnum prevents deadly accidents.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the gun by the rubber grip with the barrel facing away from you. For safety reasons, it is either best to hold with the barrel pointing slightly up or down to avoid accidentally firing the gun at someone while loading it.

    • 2

Press the release button forward while pushing the cylinder out from the left side to expose the cylinder. Push the cylinder from the right side of the gun so the cylinder is exposed on the left side.

    • 3

Insert one cartridge round into each chamber. There are five chambers in the cylinder so place five cartridges total into the cylinder. Smith and Wesson makes a particular cartridge for this gun, which is a .500 Smith and Wesson Magnum cartridge.

    • 4

Close the chamber cylinder by pressing it towards the gun.

    • 5

Keep in mind that the gun is now ready to fire. You can fire the gun by either pulling the trigger or cocking the hammer and pulling the trigger. It is a double-action gun. Realizing this, do not point the gun at anyone or anything other than your intended target.

    • 6

Unload the gun by swinging the cylinder out and removing the cartridges.
