How to Convert a Boker Top Lock to an Automatic

Boker knives are made by Boker USA, though the company originated in Germany. The Boker Top Lock is a folding blade knife with a safety switch located on the side seam of the handle. The blade of the Boker knife is released from the handle by switching the safety down and then depressing a release button. However, the blade does not automatically move to the engaged position. Users who want the blade to move automatically to the engaged position can install a spring with an automatic conversion kit.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the pivot screw with the Torx #9 screwdriver. Use the Torx #6 screwdriver to unscrew the screws on the body of the knife handle. Separate the handle case.

    • 2

Separate the different components of the knife, including the button, button spring, safety switch and stop pin.

    • 3

Remove the washer from the pivot hole of the blade.

    • 4

Insert the straight pin of the spring into the pinhole on one side of the blade. Align the center of the spring over the pivot hole and slip over the channel. Make sure that the groove of the blade is facing toward the curved side of the handle.

    • 5

Rotate the blade forward to the engaged position. Insert the stop pin into the round divot at the top of the handle below the catch of the knife blade. Insert the spring pin into the divot adjacent to the round part of the blade. Place the firing button over the spring pin.

    • 6

Slip the safety into the little rectangular groove on the edge of the knife handle. Place the knife handle case securely into position. Screw the handle screws into place. Screw the pivot screw. Fold the knife blade into the handle. Test the release button. Loosen the pivot screw a bit and test the release again. Once the button releases the blade, test the button five times. Tighten the body screws once the blade is completely tested and working perfectly.
