How to Build a Teddy Bear Wooden Display Case

A display case for a teddy bear collection can come in many sizes and designs. The display case can be as big as a Welsh dresser or a small wall-mounted case the size of a flat-screen TV. No matter the size, the basic manufacturing technique for a wooden display case is the same. Plywood is used for the cabinet̵7;s back and pine or hardwood makes up the front and shelves. The design can be modified to fit most teddy bear collectors' needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a plan of the proposed display case. Take measurements to determine where it will fit in your home and write them down Draw it to scale, so that you have a good idea of the finished product̵7;s size and shape.

    • 2

Measure and mark the wood. Draw lines with a ruler or straight edge showing where you are going to saw the wood. Using a carpenter's square ensures 90-degree angles. Make certain your measurements are accurate.

    • 3

Place the plywood sheet on a flat surface and saw it along the lines. Cut the planks to size for the sides, top, bottom and internal shelves.

    • 4

Assemble the pieces. Nail or screw the top, bottom and sides to the plywood back and to one another. Make each piece fit together exactly and not to damage the wood with the hammer. Use a carpenter's file for making neat joints where the wood pieces are not exactly the same size.

    • 5

Measure the places where the shelves go inside the cabinet and mark them. Install the shelves, and screw or nail them in place. File them down if necessary until they fit exactly.

    • 6

Sand the entire cabinet, smoothing out any rough edges. An electric sander is good for this job, but it can be done by hand. Sanding helps remove any grease that may be on the wood.

    • 7

Make the door. Miter the trim to make 45-degree angles at the corners. Nail or staple them together. Screw transparent acrylic plastic into the trim frame̵7;s groove making a door. Attach the door to the cabinet with hinges. The number of hinges needed depends upon the cabinet̵7;s size. Attach a door handle to the transparent acrylic plastic and the door catch on the inside of the cabinet frame.

Stain the wood if desired and allow it to dry. Seal and finish the wood with varnish or polyurethane. Introduce your teddy bears to their new home.
