How to Label Comic Book Dividers

Organizing your comic book collection can consist of many activities, from storing them in filing cabinets based on their publishing dates, genre or author to using and labeling box dividers with appropriate information, or simply storing your comics on a bookshelf. For those who want to use dividers, labeling them appropriately can help you keep track of all of your comic books effectively and efficiently.

Instructions

    • 1

Review your collection to determine how you want to sort your comics using the box dividers. For example, if you have only one or two comics from specific authors, but you have many comics written during the same timeframe, you might consider organizing your comics by the date they were published. However, if you have many different comics from many different authors, you may be more interested in dividing them by author.

    • 2

Purchase box dividers with tabs that are specifically designed for you to write on with either pencil, pen or marker. Choosing dividers that are made to be written on with pencil may be a good idea, as you can then reorganize the tabs later to reflect your current interests and new additions to your comic collection.

    • 3

Write the necessary information on each divider tab before placing the tabs in the boxes with the comics. This will avoid any unnecessary accidents in which you mistakenly write on the comic book itself. It will also help keep your handwriting neat and legible if you label the tabs on a flat, sturdy surface such as a table or counter.

    • 4

Incorporate different colors of pen or marker if you decide not to use pencil. Different-colored ink can help you quickly find the labels and thus the comics for which you are looking. For example, if you have many comics from a certain year and you are labeling the dividers by year, you may use different colors for comics of the same year that have different authors.

If you have the unlimited time and the necessary budget to devote to the full organization of your comic books, purchase enough dividers for each individual comic book you have. For each tab, include the title, author and year of publication on the divider so that you can most easily locate the precise comic for which you will be searching.
