Buy a trading card guide at a hobby or comic book store. Buy a guide that focuses specifically on "Yu-Gi-Oh!" cards, to get the best possible information. Read through the guide carefully, and take note of valuable, rare and popular cards.

Take part in online forums focused on "Yu-Gi-Oh!" and watch online auctions for deals on certain cards you want. Make trade arrangements online, offering your less valuable and duplicate cards in exchange for those you need to complete your collection of premium cards.

Study card packages known as booster packs, to determine how often rare cards appear in them. Buy booster packs as often as you can, based on the information you find, and look for patterns and trends within the packs.
