How to Make Dividers for a CD Collection

There are many ways you organize your CD collection. Creating dividers is one of the main ways to get organized. With the dividers, you can make categories such as genre or artist. You can buy dividers at the store to place in-between CD sections, but they lack originality. If you want to add a personal touch to your organization and save some money, use the CDs themselves as the divider. With a little work and some imagination you can divide and organize your CD collection.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain an even number of CDs. These can be anything from the clear plastic top CD in a CD recordable pack to old Internet discs that you have received in the mail or game or music CDs that are no longer usable from age.

    • 2

Cut several pieces of string 6 inches long. This will allow you to put together two CDs and still have a little bit of slack to make the knot.

    • 3

Lay one CD on top of another so that the edge of one CD is against the center hole of the other CD. Run an end of the string through each of the holes.

    • 4

Pick up the CDs and turn them over, being careful not to let the string fall out of place. Cross the string on the back of the CD and pull it tight. Once the string is as tight as you can get it, use a piece of tape to secure the string to the CD. Use an extra piece of tape if necessary.

    • 5

Stick a blank address label to the outer edge of the CDs. Write information on the label to categorize the CDs in the group. This can be the letter "A," "Country Music" or anything else you need to make organizing your CD collection easier for you.

    • 6

Place the joined CDs in-between groups of music as a divider. The CDs will not block the view of any of the CD labels, but will stick out far enough that it gives you a clear division.
