How to Measure the Size of a Cuckoo Clock

Cuckoo clocks were originally made from various woods and hand carved in creative designs, according to Cuckoo Clock World. These Black Forest cuckoo clocks often make beautiful chiming noises on the hour, and sometimes at each quarter of an hour. These beautiful items are still made using a wide variety of materials and can be purchased from myriad retailers. Measuring a cuckoo clock to determine the size only requires a few simple measuring materials.

Ensure all of the clock elements are hanging in the correct position. Make sure the pendulum is in place. If the clock is not mounted, have another person hold the clock up as straight as possible.

    • 2

Measure the height of the cuckoo clock from the top of the clock to the bottom of the body of the clock using measuring tape. Cuckoo clocks sizes and measurements do not include the hanging pendulum measurement. Make sure the measuring tape remains straight and vertical when taking the measurement. Note down the cuckoo clock body measurement in inches. This measurement will be the basic size of the cuckoo clock -- for example, 19 inches.

Measure the width of the cuckoo clock as well as the length of any pendulum components. Although these measurements will not be included in the official size of the cuckoo clock, they will be useful to potential buyers or interested parties.
