How to Fix the Hair on a Stuffed Animal

Stuffed animals get dirty. The fur and hair on a stuffed animal often collect dirt or become matted and knotted. While spot cleaning clears up many problems with the furry part of the animal, the hair is often left a mess, especially when the hair is in knots or is severely tangled. However, by gently working out the knots and washing the hair with a little soap, the animal's hair can look as fresh as the fur.

Instructions

    • 1

Untangle the stuffed animal's hair with your fingers. Gently run your fingers through the hair. This eliminates larger knots in the hair.

    • 2

Gently grasp a section of the hair at the roots. Gently comb the ends of the hair with a fine-toothed comb.

    • 3

Work the comb up the hair a little at a time. This helps bring the knots in the hair toward the ends.

    • 4

Comb the hair until you reach the roots. Gently comb the root hair. Pull the comb from the roots to the tips until all knots are at the end of the hair.

    • 5

Comb the knots out of the hair.

    • 6

Repeat with each section of the hair until all the knots are gone and the hair is smooth.

    • 7

Mix a small amount of shampoo into a glass of water. Dip the comb in the water. Pull the comb through the stuffed animal's hair a few times. This freshens up the hair. Avoid getting water at the root of the hair.

    • 8

Rinse out the glass of water. Fill the glass with fresh, soap-free water. Rinse the comb and dip it in the water once more. Run the comb through the stuffed animal's hair except for the roots.

    • 9

Let the hair air-dry in the sun or in a warm area. Style the hair as needed.
