How to Remove Stickers on Books

Across the nation, book sellers appear to have gone sticker crazy. Price tags are haphazardly slapped on book covers. Store-specific bar codes can be found on the back covers. Some online stores are even placing stickers advertising products that have nothing to do with books -- on books. Sometimes, the stickers peel off easily. But more often than not, removing them takes time and patience. You can speed this process by using peanut butter or nail polish remover.

Instructions

  1. Peanut Butter

    • 1

Smear a small amount of peanut butter on the sticker. You don't need much, just a thin layer over the paper sticker.

    • 2

Let the peanut butter set on the sticker for about one minute. The peanut oil will begin to dissolve the glue bonding the sticker to the book.

    • 3

Rub the peanut butter covered sticker vigorously with a paper towel. Bits of the sticker will begin to peel off.

    • 4

Wipe the excess peanut butter off the book. Scrape the remaining sticker off with your fingernail. Rub the residue from the book with the peanut butter covered paper towel.

    • 5

Wipe the cover clean with a wet paper towel, and dry it with a fresh paper towel.

    Fingernail Polish Remover

    • 6

Slip your fingernail under one edge of the sticker. Scrape the sticker away from the book. If it rips, select another part of the sticker to begin scraping with your nail. Continue scraping the sticker from the book until you've removed as much as possible.

    • 7

Dip a cotton swab in fingernail polish remover. Rub the acetone on the sticker residue.

    • 8

Wipe the acetone off the book with a wet paper towel. Dry the book with a clean paper towel.

    • 9

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the book is residue-free.
